Chaco Ramen is a Japanese restaurant that has been making contemporary ramen in Darlinghurst, Sydney, since 2014. In fact, they serve four types of ramen using classic techniques with a modern twist, highlighting their pride dishes like the Chilli Coriander or Yuzu Scallop ramen. Moreover, this shop is the original offering a ramen-focused menu with sides such as Edamame, Chicken Wings Karage and Gyosas, and drinks like beers, cocktails and sake. Additionally, Chaco Ramen has opened a new venue in Bondi Beach, offering a more extensive menu with more Japanese food.

I expected more of Chaco Ramen

Well, when I went to eat at Chaco ramen and saw some Japanese people, amongst others, cooking there. Therefore, I thought I would have authentic Japanese ramen like in Japan because I have been to this country twice to try the best Japanese food. So, I know how to distinguish the traditional and best ramen. However, at Chaco, I experienced fusion ramen like nothing original. How must be. In short, I will describe it as a tasty soup that does not represent authentic Japanese food. In addition, the bowl I tried here was Chilli Coriander Ramen.

Sometimes a cool vibe is enough

Certainly, I was not one hundred per cent satisfied with Chaco Ramen because I expected more of this place. That is to say, the flavours of Japanese food did not convince me. On the other hand, this ramen shop has a cool vibe, where it is common to be busy with customers in a pleasant environment due to efficiency and friendly staff. Moreover, if you are a person who is looking for innovation and creativity and go beyond authenticity, Chaco Ramen is the Japanese restaurant for you.

Everything has a Price, even Ramen

Chaco Ramen offers two different prices for each bowl: the original and the special. For example, the original is how they actually serve it. However, the special comes with extra Chashu Pork, Whole egg and Bamboo shoots, consequently being more expensive than the original, which applies to each of the four main ramen. As a result, the bowls surround the price between 19 AUD and 28 AUD.

  1. It’s for when you are in the mood for something different. Recently I went to an Italian restaurant and they had harissa and latkes on the menu instead of something more Italian like bomba and Italian coquettes. I guess chefs like to push the culinary boundaries sometimes.
