After I have come several times at Stalactites, a well known greek restaurant in Melbourne, since 1978. In fact, I realised one thing that the Souvlakis here, are the best in the city. And if you don’t know what I’m talking about, is a kind of Turkish kebab or Israeli Shawarma but from Greece, where they usually name it souvlakis or giros.

Besides, it’s served in a pita bread with crisp lettuces, tomatoes, onions and homemade tzatziki. Not to mention the gluten free option, available as well. Moreover, there are four choices such as chicken, lamb, beef and even vegetarian, for those who don’t eat meat. But, the best of all, by my opinion, are the chicken souvlakis. Also, you can mix with different meats in the same wrap. For example chicken and lamb, or whatever you please, that is up to you.

Souvlakis are not the only food in the Greek Restaurant

Indeed, the greek restaurant has other typical dishes, but I can assure you that souvlakis are the most popular and delicious. However, here it is the menu if you would like to eat something else.

Samurai Gourmet Eating Souvlakis

As I said before, having tried all the souvlakis, also in several ways, as with mixed meats. But, chicken is the best, why?. Let me tell you the answer, chicken is easier to marinated. That is to say, any ingredients that you add to it, the meat absorbed it better and you can feel all the spices on it, because chicken is lighter in flavour. On the other hand, beef and lamb are stronger. So, no matter how many spices or herbs you add to these meats, still the predominant natural flavours will remain into the meat.

Moreover, I usually ordered the chicken souvlakis with hummus and chips into the wrap. Besides, of course with spicy sauce, plus a cool beer. In short, nothing better after finished work than this greek wrap with friends.
